Kayode is a proficient business analyst and Geoscientist with global exposure and a value-oriented approach. Having spent 17 continuous years in the oil and gas sector, he has demonstrated exceptional technical skills and commercial acumen in creating value for assets. Currently, he serves as an Advisor for Geoscience and New Business Development at Vertex Energy Ltd., a private equity-backed energy company that operates in Nigeria with a focus on Africa.

Kayode had a 13-year career at ExxonMobil, where he held various positions in technical and business leadership aspects of Geoscience in assets located in Africa, the US, and Russia. These roles involved working on hydrocarbon basins in shelf, shallow water, and deepwater terrains. He departed the company in September 2022 as Geoscience Technical Advisor to work for Vertex Energy Ltd. Working at ExxonMobil provided him with invaluable global experience and open-mindedness toward diverse perspectives. Prior to ExxonMobil, Kayode had a two-year stint as a Geochemist and Basin Modeler with Shell.

He is committed to continuous learning and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Sustainable Energy at Johns Hopkins University in Washington D.C. to expand his knowledge in areas such as Energy Policy Analysis, Governance, and Sustainable Energy Finance. Kayode’s education includes a bachelor’s degree in Geology & Mineral Sciences with First Class honors from the University of Ilorin in Nigeria and a Ph.D. in Petroleum Geochemistry from Newcastle University in the UK. Kayode is deeply invested in promoting sustainability, responsible usage of natural resources, and environmental conservation.

He is a lover of Owe land and a promoter of Okun cultural values. As an old boy (1997 set), and past Head Boy of St. Augustine’s College, Kabba, he instituted three annual awards/ prizes in 2006, and he has consistently funded the disbursement of these awards- Teacher of the Year Prize, Head Boy Prize, and the Best Science Student in SSS3 prize.
